- Brideau's main point of the story was to express how you don't really understand the severity, and tragedy of a situation sometimes, until you witness it firsthand. You see this in the story when she says "For me the enormity of the double hurricanes became clear only after witnessing so many people lest without homes."
- The primary point of view in the story is Lydia's during the disaster. The impact it has on me as a reader is that it really gives me an idea of how horrible, and terrifying it would have been to be in hurricane Katrina.
- Brideau uses words like toxic, fluorescent, devastated, bulky, and terrified to appeal to the readers emotions by giving you an understanding of just how bad the hurricane was, and how bad Lydia's conditions are even now.
- The audience of Health Affairs would most likely be students in some sort of medical class. Brideau's tone fits these readers because the people in this class would probably be learning about improving health, and sustaining a healthy living environment. And in Brideau's writing she explains hows the conditions of Lydia, and where Lydia is living at now are not well.
- I saw a kid sitting alone at lunch one day, so i decided to join him. I asked him his name and, "why are you sitting alone". He said "My name is Dante, and I don't have any friends because I don't wear nice clothes, and people think I smell, But my family doesn't have the money to afford nice clothes." we conversed for while, and I he told me more about how he family struggles to make ends meet, how he has to take clod showers, and even how he has to share a room with his five other cousins and only one bed. We continued to talk and I realized that he's a actually quite a happy guy. he told me about how much his family loves and supports him, and how he got a 4.0 last semester. Lunch ended and we parted ways, but i hoped to see him again next lunch so that we could continue to talk. But one thing really made me think. I realized that I get mad, and stress over little things when there's people like Dante who have close to nothing but still appreciate life and persevere through life's obstacles with a positive attitude.
