Literary Narrative Lab

  1. In Lydia’s story a good visual description was when Brideau said, “a small, slender black woman. She was in her sixties, with her short grey hair neatly tucked up inside a kerchief”(pg.128, paragraph 1).
  2. In Nichol’s narrative she says “After months of preparation and anxiety, the pressure was on”(pg.4, paragraph 1).
  3. Again in Lydia’s story, the author said “struck by the chemical odor of a cleaning solution so strong that it seemed toxic. The hall had no windows, only fluorescent lighting illuminated the space”(pg.128, paragraph  2).
  4. List of possible essay topics:
  • A significant text, or book
  • Learning how to write

      5.  I'm going to write about learning how to type, and how it has helped me in many situation. My purpose for doing so is to fulfill an assignment.

      6. My audience is going to be my classmates, and my teacher. Most of my classmates most likely will have had similar experience, or be able to see where i'm coming from because they have probably been through elementary, middle, and high school, and been put in similar situations to mine.

      7. I want my readers to see me as a real person who has had similar experiences to them.

      8. My narrative will be printed off, and be seen by whomever views my blog. I do not plan on using photos or illustrations in my narrative because they won't help my topic.

      9. In my narrative i'm going to explain the computer lab.

     10. I heard keyboards typing, and my teacher sipping on her coffee.

     11. I could smell stinky kids, food in the cafeteria, and the bathroom that was also in the computer lab.

     12. I felt happy to know that I was learning useful strategies that i was going to be able to apply to all  kinds of situations. I was also a bit nervous because this was a big step in my life. And a lot of the other kids seemed to be able to type faster than i could.

     13. I couldn't taste anything because in the computer lab you weren't allowed food or drinks.

     14. The other people in my class varied. There were girls and boys of all different shapes, colors, and sizes. Some smelled bad and some smelled good. Some of the kids stayed focused and ready to learn, while others goofed off and just messed around. I remember the teacher and the Type To Learn computer program giving thorough directions.

    15. “Hey dude hows the typing going?” Im not really getting it so far. All i can think about is the pizza were about to devour for lunch. “same” What are you doing after school? “Probably going to the boys and girls club. You should come!” I don't think I can. “Why not?” Im grounded for a month because I always get in trouble in ms. T’s class.

   16. Everyone was typing on their computers. We all listened with headphones to the the Type To Learn computer programs instructions. The program would tell us how to place our hands on the keyboard, and which finger going to which key, and so on.

    17. The significance of learning how to type is that I have been able to apply my knowledge to many situations. I I wouldn't be doing what i am right now if i didn't know how to type and properly use a computer. Other things like texting, emailing, and sending facebook messages would not have been possible if i hadn't learned from this class.
