Rubin's Essay Questions 1-4


  1. Melissa Rubin she states that "The way that Coca-Cola chooses to place the objects and depict men and women in this ad speaks volume about American society in the middle of the 20th century." Rubin then goes on to explain how in the ad it depicts how white working males dominated society at the time.
  2. Rubin included important historical context when she explained how during the 1950's racial prejudice was still a big deal of the time, and this is why the ad featured white people only.
  3. You might also try to answer the question, "Does this ad use ethos, pathos, or logos, to appeal to their intended audience?"
  4. One ad that reflects the values of this era is the iPhone ads. This is an important value of this era because we are in the era of staying connected. These two ads compare in the sense that they both address two big parts of society at the time. In the Coca-Cola ad by stressing the importance of the army, and in iPhone ads by stressing how crucial it is to have a phone in this day and age.
